5e is a medieval fantasy game and I doubt you'd be able to find lanterns that small. At least, that's how I'd rule it. I would perhaps allow some sort of back-mounted lantern to bypass holding one, under the caveat that an enemy could shoot the lantern down to put the players in the dark.
